Call for warning signs to alert motorists of new Mayo pedestrian crossings

The need for warning sign to be erected to alert motorists of newly installed pedestrian crossings in Mayo has been highlighted by an elected representatives.

A member of the Castlebar Municipal District, Councillor Ger Deere, has called for a warning sign to be erected on the approach to the newly installed pedestrian crossings on the Rathbawn Road in Castlebar.

Councillor Deere said the pedestrian crossing is very welcome in the area but given its location - just after a bend on the road and a steep incline - there is a need to warn motorists of its existence.

"I have had representations from several pedestrians and motorists regarding the danger at the location.

"I have made council engineers aware of the matter and hope that it will be addressed as a matter of urgency."
