Funding for 34 Mayo clubs under Sports Capital Equipment Grant Scheme

MAYO Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary has confirmed funding for Mayo clubs under the Sports Capital Equipment Grant Scheme 2021.

Thirty-four Mayo-based sports clubs and organisations will benefit as well as the Connacht Ladies Gaelic Association and Mayo Schoolboys/Girls and Youth Association.

Said Deputy Calleary: “I wish to thank Minister Jack Chambers, who visited Mayo with me recently, for responding favourably to the successful applications and I want to congratulate all the clubs, organisations and societies that have been allocated funding on this occasion.

“The past 16 months have been particularly challenging for sports clubs and organisations and it is important for us all to remember that each of them is run by local committed volunteers who give freely of their time and expertise to provide facilities, coaching and a social outlet for us all throughout the county. This funding will go some way towards assisting the successful applicants in their journey into the second half of 2021 and into 2022.”

Capital funding applications are presently being assessed with an announcement due in the coming weeks, Deputy Calleary also confirmed.

Deputy Alan Dillon also welcomed the funding, saying it represents a significant investment in sporting equipment around Mayo.

“I am delighted to see this equipment funding has a good geographic spread around the county and being allocated to a strong mix of sports,” he said. “I will be working to ensure the funding can be drawn down as quickly as possible so local communities around Mayo can benefit from this funding in the near future.”
