Funding boost for Mayo apprenticeship courses

A Mayo TD has welcomed confirmation of apprenticeship funding of €556,875 for the region allocated by Further and Higher Education Minister, Simon Harris.

It has been granted to Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim ETB.

This is additional funding to address the impact of Covid-19 on the delivery of apprenticeships.

The funding will be delivered in two streams with funding of €406,875 for electrical instrumentation and a further €150,000 for electrical apprenticeships.

Deputy Alan Dillon said: “Minister Harris has strongly outlined in the past that apprenticeships are a huge priority for him and the government.

"In September, Minister Harris will be updating government on plans to increase visibility of apprenticeships for school-leavers as part of the CAO reform work.

"In the interim, it is great to see significant funding of over half a million euro being put into Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim ETB.

"The funding will be used to specifically address the impact of Covid-19 on the delivery of apprenticeships.”
