Additional funding for storm wall works on Clew Bay island

Rural and Community Development Minister, Heather Humphreys, has confirmed additional funding of €36,000 for Mayo County Council for offshore islands.

This is part of a national allocation of €164,295 in addition to the €1.1million announced in May of which €747,000 was allocated to Mayo.

Welcoming the news Deputy Alan Dillon said: “It is great to see Mayo County Council receive an addition €36,000 on top of the €747,000 allocated to Mayo’s islands last May.

"The council will provide co-funding for additional works on Inishnakillew island in Clew Bay.

"This funding means Inishnakillew will receive a new storm wall of concrete on the causeway along with upgrades to 60 metres of road.

"The funding has been awarded as part of the government’s policy for rural development, Our Rural Future, which commits to investing in critical infrastructure throughout rural Ireland, including our offshore islands.”
