Mayo's Mick D releases new single, with a little help from friends

Written by Ballina-based Mick D and Daniel Bannon with Sligo singer Emmzi on the chorus, 'Geek Love' explores the complex mind of a geeky teenager looking to win the heart of the girl he adores.

For too long he has helplessly watched on as she is being wooed by the ‘cool kids’. However, in Mick D’s latest track there is a glimmer of hope for the geek – and that glimmer is what many people in life cling to. 'Geek Love' is a song for the lovers!

The countdown is now on to a 6 p.m. launch tomorrow evening (Saturday, August 21).

A primary school teacher in Ballina since 2006, Mick D is a west coast rapper bringing his own unique flavour to the Irish rap game.

Currently assistant coach with the Sligo Rovers Under 19s men’s team, Mick’s energetic, fun songs like ‘I Love My Tea’ and ‘I Love Mayo’ have brought him great fame locally.

Last year, one of his most coveted tracks to date, ‘The ‘Na Song’ – an ode to his home town of Ballina – racked up over 100k views across social media and has become an anthem for the north Mayo town’s population.

In June of this year, RTÉ came to visit Mick D at his school to check out the YouTube sensation rapping teacher and discuss his songs and charity work with his pupils.

You can see Mick D’s collection of songs on all the major streaming platforms such as Spotify and YouTube – simply search for ‘Mick D’ – and follow him on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
