Unvaccinated people urged by CMO to come forward for first jab

The Department of Health has this evening been notified of 2,125 new Covid cases, with 259 patients in hospital, an increase of eight on yesterday.

It's the highest daily figure since mid-February.

The number of people in ICU is up by two to 54.

The chief medical officer Dr. Tony Holohan said this upward trend in serious infection is of significant concern, increasing the pressure on frontline heathcare services and non-Covid care.

Dr. Holohan urged all those who are not yet vaccinated to come forward and get their first jab.

"It is critical for everyone to stay safe by following public health advice as part of their daily routine."
