Press Photographer of the Year exhibition opens in Claremorris

The Press Photographers Association of Ireland (PPAI) exhibition has opened in the Claremorris Town Hall Theatre, to an audience of photography enthusiasts from Mayo and Galway.

Along with the winning pictures and a slideshow of many other excellent press images that comprise the exhibition, there was also a talk, introduced by the PPAI’s President Paul Sherwood, by the PPAI’s Press Photographer of the Year James Crombie.

James, who as well as being freshly back from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, is also the photographer that earlier this year took the now famous murmuration photo of the starlings in the shape of a giant bird at Lough Ennell in Co.Westmeath.

That image not only was used on the front page of the Irish Times, but was also widely used throughout the UK media and also gained worldwide coverage.

John Corless, manager of the Town Hall Theatre, said: “It is attratcing a great deal of interest with 300 people viewing the exhibition on one day alone.

The PPAI’s ‘Press Photographer of the Year’ exhibition runs in the Claremorris Town Hall Theatre until Sunday, August 29, and is well worth a visit. Entry is free.
