50% capacity confirmed for All-Ireland SFC final

The GAA have announced that a 50% capacity threshold will apply for the All-Ireland SFC final between Mayo and Tyrone at Croke Park on Saturday week, September 11.

The government confirmed on Tuesday that the majority of the remaining Covid-19 restrictions will be eased by the end of October, including outdoor venues being allowed to operate at a capacity of 75% from September 6.

A crowd of 40,000 had earlier been decided upon for the decider, with the stadium's official capacity set at 82,300. This would mean that a crowd of just over 60,000 could potentially be allowed into the game.

But the GAA has ruled out any major change to the attendance, meaning there will be just an extra 1,150 tickets becoming available.

The GAA said in a statement that with approximately half of our tickets already distributed and "unrealistic logistical challenges around processing Covid passports on a match day for a crowd in excess of 41,150 coming from all over the country and abroad, it was decided to proceed on the basis of a 50% attendance."

"The GAA acknowledges the work of the Department of Sport on this issue and looks forward to the benefit that Tuesday evening’s announcement will have on club games in the weeks and months ahead," the statement concluded.
