Oisín Mullin and Eoghan McLaughlin have recovered from their injuries and are in contention to start the All-Ireland SFC final on Saturday against Tyrone.

Mayo duo Mullin and McLaughlin in contention to face Tyrone

WITH Saturday evening’s All-Ireland final fast approaching, the buzz and excitement around Mayo is now at an all-time high as loyal supporters feel this is the best chance in 70 years for their county senior team to win the Sam Maguire Cup.

While we can expect the Mayo team to be announced on Thursday or Friday, it might not be the team that actually starts the final.

The big talk in respect of team selection centres on two players – Oisín Mullin and Eoghan McLaughlin.

With regard to Mullin, who missed the semi-final win over Dublin in the semi-final, the initial fear was the injury he picked up in training prior to that game would keep him out of action for anything up to three months.

However, such has been his response to responded treatment, there is every chance of him being fit for the final.

The word coming from the Mayo camp is that the Kilmaine club man is firmly back in contention for a starting place on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the jaw fracture Eoghan McLaughlin picked up in the Dublin game was expected to rule him out of the final.

Again, like Mullin, the Westport man, who returned to training on the Tuesday evening after the semi-final, is also making a great recovery and is ready to make a quick return to action.

Indeed, the word on the ground is that McLaughlin’s injury might not have been as bad as first thought.

The latest chat on the street is that both Mullin and McLaughlin will be in Mayo's 26-man match day squad.
