Claremorris boys raise over €1,000 for Irish Cancer Society

MOHAMMAD Naeem and Evan Reilly are making a big difference to the lives of people affected by cancer in their community.

Like countless charities, Covid-19 has had an enormously negative impact on the Irish Cancer Society’s revenue streams, including their shops and fundraisers, making it harder to help individuals suffering with cancer and their families.

The boys explained why they decided to fundraise for the Irish Cancer Society and spoke on the experience of running a fundraising event. “We are simply in awe of the remarkable work the Irish Cancer Society does to help people affected by cancer. We feel it's fair to say that many people and families have been touched by cancer and we would be only too glad to use our leadership journey as an opportunity to support a charity that does so much good.”

Mohammad further explained how they came across many challenges in organising a fundraising event during Covid-19. But this did not stop them, they managed to overcome these challenges and to hold a very successful event!

Mohammad and Evan organised a walk at Clare Lake in Claremorris where participants wore clothing of colour that symbolises the various different cancers (for example pink for breast cancer, etc.) so that they were not just raising funds, but also awareness.

They would like to thank friends and family who helped out at the event and they are hugely grateful to their major sponsors: MW Designs, Claremorris, for signage and posters, refreshments provided for participants were generously donated by Damien Hall of SuperValu whilst the Family Resource Centre in Claremorris gave valuable support and guidance in organising the event.
