South Mayo swimming location in need of improvement works

IMPROVEMENTS are needed at the popular Cahir Pier in Ballinrobe.

The main swimming area locally, it is not really a pier, Councillor Michael Burke pointed out. It's a load of rocks and it's dangerous.

The councillor proposed that funding be made available to make it safe and easier to access for people going swimming, and to have that done for next year.

Agreeing with his colleague, Councillor Damien Ryan said any works needed to be done in a spirit of consultation and cooperation.

Cahir was a massive asset for the town, in an unspoilt area, and they should look at how they can improve it.

The location, councillors were told, is being assessed.
