Ballycroy priest urges people to support national park name campaign

THE parish priest in Ballycroy has issued an appeal to parishioners across the globe to support the local community's campaign to have the village's name restored to the title of the national park.

Ballycroy has been dropped in favour of the title Wild Nephin National Park, but locals are fighting hard to have it reinstated.

At Mass on Sunday, Fr. Chris Ginnelly urged Ballycroy people at home and abroad to support the campaign to get the name restored.

He called on the community all over the world to have their say and have the name restored as the Ballycroy National Park.

Fr. Ginnelly described the national park as 'the jewel' in the community and the decision to drop Ballycroy from its name, without consultation locally, was extremely disappointing.

The community, he noted, had battled hard to get the park many years ago. Today it was known worldwide and was very much associated with Ballycroy.
