New south Mayo community playground officially opens

The new Kilmaine community playground has been officially opened.

The ceremony was performed by Deputy Michael Ring.

In his former capacity as Minister for Rural and Community Development, Deputy Ring provided funding in the amount of €65,000 through the LEADER Programme for the development of this playground.

He stated: “I was delighted to be in a position to provide funding to Kilmaine community playground when I was Minister for Rural and Community Development.

"I was equally delighted to officially open this wonderful amenity and see this project in all its glory.”

Deputy Ring continued: “This playground will be a very valuable resource in this area. It will serve both the local community and visitors that come to Kilmaine and surrounding hinterland each year.

“I congratulate all those who have been involved in developing this playground. It is an excellent example of what can be done when stakeholders work together; it also shows the strong community spirit and pride which is alive and well in Kilmaine.

“It is wonderful to see local people working together to improve their area and how targeted government investment can support this initiative."
