Mayo museum launches fundraising drive to secure its future

A FUNDRAISING drive has been launched by Kiltimagh Museum in order to keep its doors open.

The museum is run by volunteers and Kiltimagh Historical Society act as curator and custodian of the museum, train carriages and artefacts.

Due to Covid restrictions over the past 18 months and to maintain the museum in its present state, they are urgently seeking donations to secure its survival for future generations.

The rising costs of electricity and insurance, which are the main overheads, mean they are struggling to meet these costs and this could jeopardise their future.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up and you can donate here: https://gofund.me/5602bc7c.

On the fundraising page, they explain: 'The museum is a vital source of local history and genealogy for locals and visitors. It houses many artefacts and lore of bygone years, recalling people and a way of life that have gone forever.

'Also celebrated here are the distinguished careers of many of our former residents whose achievements contributed to our pride and confidence in Kiltimagh. It is therefore important that we preserve and protect our local heritage with this vital link with the past.

'We can offer a space to hold meetings/gatherings or small exhibitions for a moderate fee. New artefacts are welcome either on loan or for permanent display.'

The museum is run by volunteers and open to the public by appointment.
