Appeal for return of search and rescue kayaks

THE taking of two search and rescue boats in Foxford earlier this month has been described as a 'despicable act'.

Having already highlighted the matter on social media, the issue has been raised again, this time at a Mayo policing meeting, by Councillor Neil Cruise who said the kayaks were very useful for searching in areas other vessels can't reach.

Councillor Cruise has urged people to keep their eyes open as the kayaks are 'badly needed' on our lakes and rivers.

Their taking was 'a despicable act' and maybe those who took them might realise that one day they might need them themselves, or one of their family, he told the meeting.

The councillor appealed to the people who took the kayaks to 'have a bit of cop on' and return them or send a message about where they are so they can be returned.

The kayaks (picture shared on Councillor Cruise's Facebook page) were stolen from a house in Tavnaughmore, Foxford, and are owned by Foxford Search & Rescue.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of this vital equipment is asked to contact the gardaí or send Councillor Cruise a private message on Facebook.
