HSE looking at options for covered walkway to hospital assessment unit

OPTIONS to provide a cover for patients moving between the Covid Assessment Unit and main hospital building at Mayo University Hospital are being looked at.

The issue was raised at a west regional health forum meeting this week by Councillor Michael Kilcoyne who asked what steps have been taken to construct a covered passageway between the Covid Assessment Unit and the main hospital building.

In a written reply from the Saolta Health Care Group, he was told that HSE West Estates have been engaged to advise the hospital on feasible options to provide a covered walkway link from ACAU to the main hospital.

It is planned to ask the design team that will be appointed to the ED/AMU project to assess what temporary option is possible to address this matter.
