Two national championships in seven days for Mayo athlete

Mayo athlete Maeve Gallagher has won two national titles in seven days in the sport of triathlon.

On September 18 she won the Sprint Distance National Championship title in a race held in Dunmore East, Co. Waterford, and just seven days later she won the Standard Olympic Distance National Championship race in Westport, Co. Mayo.

Both races were fiercely competitive, with over 500 participants in each one. That illustrates how fantastic an achievement it was for Swinford native Maeve, who recently turned 20 and is in her second year studying pharmacy in UCC.

Maeve was lucky to have great family support for her race in Westport, with parents, brothers and grandparents all out on the course to cheer her on.

Next up for Maeve is the National Cycling Championships this weekend in Wicklow followed by an European Elite Cup Triathlon race, which will be held in Barcelona, Spain, over the weekend of October 9/10.
