Two men arrested by gardaí in Mayo as part of UK murder investigation

Two men have been arrested in Mayo in connection with the death of a 24-year-old man in England.

Members of An Garda Siochána in the county conducted the arrests at a property in Carracastle.

The men, reported to be both from the north Cumbria area, were arrested as part of an ongoing investigation launched following the death of Ryan Kirkpatrick, Carlisle, on September 18.

Kirkpatrick was fatally stabbed in Carlisle city centre in what was described as 'a targeted attack'. He died at the scene.

The two suspects were extradited to the UK on foot of a High Court order and were taken into custody.

A UK police officer said: “This is a significant development in our investigation."
