Weekend water supply interruptions expected in west Mayo community

Irish Water and Mayo County Council have advised customers in Louisburgh of possible overnight interruptions to their supply this weekend due to the deterioration in raw water following recent heavy rainfall.

Intermittent or low pressure may be experienced between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. each night to ensure essential daytime water supply can be maintained.

Gerard Greally, Asset Operation Lead for Irish Water, said, “We understand the inconvenience when a planned outage occurs, and we are working closely with our colleagues in Mayo County Council to ensure there is an uninterrupted supply during daytime hours.

“The situation is being closely monitored and arrangements are being put in place to minimise nightly interruptions.”

Irish Water is asking customers to be mindful of how they use water.

While it is important to continue to follow the HSE guidelines on hand washing, simple conservation efforts can have a major impact on reducing demand on the supply.

Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth can save up to 6 litres of water per minute.

Taking a shower instead of a bath or using a watering can rather than a hose when gardening can also make a big difference in water use.

We are also reminding people with responsibility for properties that are currently unoccupied to check for leaks and turn off water where it is not required.

There are lots more tips on how to conserve water in your home on the Water Conservation section of our website.

Irish Water and Mayo County Council thank customers for their patience as work continues to ensure water supply is secured.
