Mayo's highest populated district has greatest Covid concerns - study

The 14-day Covid incidence rate in Mayo's highest populated district of Castlebar is one of concern.

It has risen to 610.2 per 100,000 of its population of 29,992.

That's significantly above the national average of 389.

The district recorded 183 new confirmed cases in the latest study, based on the two-week period from September 14 to 27 last.

Three other Mayo electoral areas have also registered rates above the national average.

Ballina has a rate of 438.1 for its population of 25,110 after 110 new cases were detected.

Westport's rate stands at 408.1 for its population of 18,378, having seen it numbers increase by 75 new cases.

Claremorris rate is 475.3 following the confirmation of 129 new cases for its population of 27,141.

The Swinford and Belmullet districts have ratings below the national average.

Swinford's rate is 295 in respect of its population of 17,286 after registering 51 new cases.

Belmullet's rate is 254 per 100k of its population of 12,600. It detected 32 new cases in the two-week period in question.
