Go-ahead for Eir mast in Foxford

EIR have been given the go-ahead for a telecommunications mast in Foxford, which was the subject of local objections.

The company's plan is to erect a 21m high monopole telecommunications support structure together with antennae, dishes and associated equipment at the Eir exchange on Barrack Road in the town.

The Foxford area is a known coverage weak spot for Eir, who don't currently transmit from the local exchange.

A number of objections were lodged with council planners and raised issues concerning health and visual impact.

One submission pointed out that Foxford has traditionally welcomed up to 250,000 visitors each year to the woollen mills, for angling on the Moy and other outdoor pursuits such as kayaking on the river and lakes, walking and cycling, and the development would impact negatively on visitors' enjoyment of the area.
