Peter McVerry Trust proceeding with eight-unit housing project in Mayo town centre

The Peter McVerry Trust is to proceed with an eight-unit housing project in Mayo.

Work is expected to start before the end of the year with funding now in place.

The project will be provided on the first floor of a vacant property at Ellison Street in Castlebar within close proximity to the old post office.

The trust offers pathways out of homelessness based on the principles of the Housing First model.

Tuach Housing is to start building an eight-house project at Chestnut Grove in the county town in January.

Co-Operative Housing is due to commence works on a 20-house scheme at Humbert Way, Castlebar, in the coming weeks.

The Irish Wheelchair Association is also working closely with Mayo County Council on the provision of 16 units at Lois Na Circe, Milebush, Castlebar, to be ready by the end of 2023.

The contract signing for 22 of the units, to be carried out by Mayo County Council, is expected to take place in November.
