Call for public enquiry into pyrite/mica scandal

A MAYO councillor is seeking support for a full public enquiry into the pyrite/mica scandal.

Foxford-based Councillor Neil Cruise made the call at yesterday's (Monday) meeting of Mayo County Council when he asked elected colleagues to support the calls for a public enquiry into the issue.

His call was seconded by Councillor Donna Sheridan.

Fine Gael TD Joe McHugh has led the call for a public enquiry to take place.

Director of services Tom Gilligan said the working group set up by the minister has submitted its report, which will be brought to cabinet and decisions made from there.

It will be up to the minister to decide if there is to be a public enquiry.
