Achill Tourism launches Achill Greenway parkrun

Achill Tourism has announced that parkrun is starting in Achill on October 23 at 9.30 a.m. from Achill Greenway (Great Western Greenway), Polranny.

A global series of free, weekly, timed 5k events that are community managed and open to all abilities, parkrun participants can walk, jog, run, push a buggy or volunteer. All participation is valued equally and welcomed.

Speaking about the initiative, Chris McCarthy, manager at Achill Tourism, said: “This is a great addition to Achill and we are looking forward to bringing everyone together for a fun, outdoor community experience.

“It's not just for runners; walkers are very welcome and encouraged too. The ethos of parkrun is based on community health and wellbeing, both physical and mental, and every event has a post-event social element, like coffee in a local cafe. For the Achill Greenway parkrun, coffee/tea is at Óstán Oileán Acla (Achill Island Hotel).”

To participate, simply log onto www.parkrun.ie/register and register. Pick Achill Greenway as your home event. You will get an email by return with a barcode attached. Print this barcode and bring it along any time you want to participate. See the course page on the website for more details.

Parking and toilets are available at Óstán Oileán Acla and the Achill GAA clubhouse. Post-run, why not join in for a coffee and get to know the team at Óstán Oileán Acla.

“We would like to thank our partners, Mayo County Council and the Mayo Sports Partnership for all their help and support, along with the support of other Mayo parkruns. This event will be managed by Achill Tourism and is linked to Mayo Sports Partnership and Mayo County Council,” concluded Chris.
