Mountain rescue respond twice to walkers in difficulty on Croagh Patrick

MAYO Mountain Rescue volunteers responded twice to call-outs to assist two walkers in difficulty on Croagh Patrick at the weekend.

Having provided phone assistance the first time, a second call followed over three hours later and a team went to their assistance on the mountain.

Mayo Mountain Rescue, on their social media, reported that the first call came at 9.20 p.m. on Saturday when they were tasked to locate and assist two walkers in difficulty on the Reek.

Assistance was provided by phone initially and the team was stood down at 10 p.m.

Over three hours later, at 1.20 a.m., they were tasked again to assist the same walkers who were experiencing additional difficulties.

A three-person first response team was dispatched and the two walkers were escorted off the mountain.

The operation concluded at 4.30 a.m.

RECRUITMENT

Mayo Mountain Rescue Team are currently accepting applications for new probationary members from people who are actively involved in hillwalking and mountain activities. They need adults (over the age of 21) of all capabilities, skills and talents.
