Funding application lodged for new bypass of Mayo town

An application for funding has been made today to the Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) for the N26/N58 Foxford bypass.

The proposed infrastructure would involve the construction of approximately 3.52 km of new off-line road to link the N26 north of Foxford to the N58 south of Foxford and bypassing the town, Councillor Mark Duffy has explained.

The scheme would extend between the southern end of the proposed N26 Foxford to Mount Falcon Road Project - Phase 1 (from a location approximately 1 km north of Foxford) southwards to a location on the existing N58 (approximately 1 km south of Foxford).

The project would cross the R318 Regional Road approximately 1.3 km west of Foxford and would involve a bridge crossing of the River Moy south of Foxford before joining with the existing N58 Road.

"This development will lead to enhanced inter county connectivity as well as enhancing Foxford as a tourism destination.

"I look forward to working with council colleagues and other elected members in advocating for this development to both the TII and the Minister for Transport," added Councillor Duffy.
