Outstanding issues sorted in the senior and intermediate championships

The Connacht Gold Mayo SFC group games were concluded today, with all outstanding issues sorted.

Group 1 was the only one with quarterfinal qualification matters to resolve, with Ballina Stephenites, Claremorris and Davitts all in with a shout of finishing second behind Ballintubber.

In the end Ballina overcame a stern Davitts challenge on a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-6 to secure that second spot behind 'Tubber, who were rampant against Claremorris, winning by 3-17 to 1-13.

By virtue of their opening day one-point victory against Davitts, Claremorris avoid the relegation scrap and instead condemn their Ballindine-based neighbours to the playoffs.

The final positions of the bottom two in Group 4 was also down for decision today and The Neale escaped the playoffs with a 3-15 to 3-9 win against Kiltane, leaving the Bangor men in the relegation battle.

The quarterfinal draw was made this evening following the final round of group games. The standout fixture is a repeat of last year's quarterfinal between Ballintubber, then defending champions, and Knockmore, current defending champions. Elsewhere it's Westport v Ballina Stephenites, Garrymore v Castlebar Mitchels and Belmullet v Breaffy.

The relegations playoffs see Davitts play Kiltane and Balla face Aghamore.

Kilmaine were the big winners in the Egan Jewellers IFC as they qualified for the quarterfinals at Kiltimagh's expense from Group 3. Ardnaree put it up to Kilmaine in a game that finished 4-10 to 2-12 in the south Mayo team's favour, while Kiltimagh were beaten by Louisburgh by a single point, 3-11 to 2-13. Kiltimagh do at least avoid the relegation playoffs; that is the fate that instead awaits Ardnaree.

In Group 1, Bohola Moy Davitts scraped past Bonniconlon by a point, 3-9 to 1-14, to secure second spot in the group behind Parke-Keelogues-Crimlin, while Ballyhaunis also made the last eight thanks to a 0-12 to 1-8 victory over Castlebar Mitchels B in Group 4.

The other game in Group 4 between Ballinrobe and Crossmolina Deel Rovers was a dead rubber but for the record, Crossmolina won on a 1-14 to 0-10 scoreline.

There was nothing at stake either in the Group 2 game between Mayo Gaels and Lahardane, with the former, group winners, winning by 4-15 to 2-13.

The quarterfinal line-up in the intermediate championship is as follows: Parke-Keelogues-Crimlin v Ballyhaunis, Mayo Gaels v Moy Davitts, Crossmolina Deel Rovers v Kilmaine and Louisburgh v Hollymount/Carramore.

In the relegation playoffs, it's Swinford v Ballinrobe and Ardnaree v Lahardane.

Today's result in the TF Royal Hotel Exclusive JFC were: Ardagh 0-8, Kilmeena 1-14 (Group 1); Tourmakeady 3-18, Kilfian 0-7 (Group 1); Ballycastle 2-9, Moygownagh 1-8 (Group 3); Shrule/Glencorrib 0-16, Eastern Gaels 3-6 (Group 3).

The junior A quarterfinals are as follows: Kilmeena v Killala, Cill Chomáin/Achill v Ardagh, Islandeady v Ballycastle and Shrule/Glencorrib v Cill Chomáin/Achill.

The junior B quarterfinal draw has also been made. The line-up is: Tourmakeady v Kilmovee, Kilfian v Bye, Ballycroy v Moygownagh and Lacken v Eastern Gaels.
