Urgent need for crossing at east Mayo primary school

A PEDESTRIAN crossing is urgently needed at the primary school in Ballyhaunis.

Making a strong case for the school, Councillor John Cribbin said over 330 pupils attend Scoil Iosa and one could only imagine the bedlam at drop off and pick up times.

He has tabled a notice of motion calling on Mayo County Council to install a pedestrian crossing at the Abbeyquarter location.

Councillor Cribben has received numerous phone calls from concerned parents and motorists who travel the road, some of whom take alternative routes when travelling to Ballyhaunis at school times. The school, he said, had sought Clár funding to facilitate car parking works but were unsuccessful.

Told the crossing will be included in future schemes, he pleaded with the council to secure public safety as quickly as possible.

His colleague Councillor Neil Cruise agreed the matter needs to be sorted out.
