Three Mayo telecommunications structures set for upgrades

EIR have submitted planning applications for upgrades to three telecommunications structures in Mayo.

The company hopes to replace a 15m monopole with a 21m telecommunications monopole together with antennas, dishes and associated equipment at its exchange at Toorbuck, Ayle, Westport.

At Churchfield in Knock it is proposed to replace a 20m structure with one that is 24 metres in height, again with associated equipment.

And the third recently submitted planning application relates to its exchange at Townplots East in Killala, with approval sought for a 24m monopole structure, replacing one that is 20 metres high.

Meanwhile, an application made earlier this year to extend the existing 14.4m high telecommunications lattice structure (overall height) to 21m together with the addition of telecommunications antenna, dishes and associated equipment at the Eir Exchange at Sandy Hill in Westport has been granted planning permission.

One observation on that file acknowledged the importance of these services but said it must be possible to minimise the visual impact of the structures.
