Mayo's highest populated district still has serious Covid issues

Mayo's highest populated electoral area of Castlebar still has a 14-day Covid incidence rate significantly above the national average.

After recording 199 cases during the two-week period from October 5 to 18 last, its rating has risen to 663.5 per 100,000 of its population of 29,992.

The national average stands at 493.0.

The Swinford area is also exceeds the national average after 95 new cases were identified there, bringing its rate to 549.6

Unlike Castlebar and Swinford, the rate in Ballina has dropped sharply to 195.1 in respect of its population of 25,110 after registering 49 new cases.

The rate is Westport is 266.6, a total of 49 new cases being confirmed in the past two weeks.

Up to 82 new cases were recorded in the Claremorris electoral area, leaving it with a rate of 302.1.

Belmullet recorded 15 new cases during the period in question, giving it an incidence rate of 119.

Seven Mayo Covid cases are currently being treated in Mayo University Hospital.
