Significant investment ongoing in Mayo's rural water network

SIGNIFICANT investment in rural water schemes is taking place in communities across Mayo.

An update issued by Mayo County Council set out the following works:

• Cloonmoore/Cloonlavish GWS: Civil contractor appointed, Winters Plant Hire, for network replacement (22km of pipeline) and connection to public mains and taking in charge by Irish Water. Civil works are 60% complete.

Additional funding of €1,295,000 has been approved by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (DHLGH), bringing the total funding allocation to €1,545,000.

• Downpatrick Head CWC: Civil contractor appointed, Winters Plant Hire, for construction of a new community water connection to serve 29 houses. Civil works commenced mid-September and are ongoing.

Additional funding of €109,558 was approved by the department, bringing the total funding allocation to €353,202. The total cost of the project is €430,147.

• Drimbane GWS: Civil contractor appointed, Joe Reilly Plant Hire, for network upgrade and amalgamation of the scheme with Abbeyquater GWS.

• DB 1 Bundle (Tooreen/ Aghamoore GWS, Midfield GWS, Killaturley GWS: Contractor Hydro International in the process of being appointed for upgrade works to the three schemes' water treatment plants. Funding of €850,000 has been approved for the upgrade works.

• Ballycroy GWS: Contractor Joe Reilly Plant Hire in the process of being appointed for upgrade works to the scheme's raw water pipeline. Civil works to commence later this month. Additional funding of €183,066 approved, bringing total funding to €383,066.

• Murrisk CWC: Funding of €5,068,670 was approved for a new community water connection. The detailed design phase of this project has commenced and is progressing. SDS Consulting Engineers are the council's appointed employers representative for this project.

• A civil contract for upgrade to the Midfield GWS network (€161,756 allocated funding) has been advertised on E-tender.

• The following projects are currently in the detailed design phase: Killasser network upgrade (€680,000), Irishtown GWS network upgrade, connection to public mains and taking in charge by Irish Water (€512,670), Johnstown Lavellyroe GWS network upgrade, connection to public mains and taking in charge by Irish Water (€600,000), and Tooreen/Aghamoore GWS upgrade (€200,000).
