Passing of lifelong promoter of Irish culture in Mayo, Cáit Heneghan

The death has taken place of Cáit Heneghan (née McHugh), Mons. Terrace, Castlebar, and late of Doolough, Geesala.

The deceased, a much-loved personality, was a lifelong supporter of traditional Irish song, music and dance - as well as the Irish language.

In a tribute to her, Castlebar Mitchels GAA Club stated: "We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Cáit Heneghan.

"Cáit was very heavily involved with the Mitchels Scór. She taught dancing and sean nós singing.

"She also was a Scór adjudicator and was on the Mayo Scór Committee. Her family members were also involved.

"Cáit dedicated her life to promotion of Irish culture, language and music and helped so many Castlebar students with their studies.

"Deepest sympathy to her son Micheál, her daughter-in-law, her grandchildren, her family, and her wide circle of friends on her death.

"May she rest in peace."

Predeceased by her husband Pat and sister Mary (Snugboro), she is deeply regretted by her loving son Michael, daughter-in-law Angela, granddaughters Aisling and Niamh, brother Pat (UK), sisters Ann (UK), Peg (Ballina), Breda (UK), brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, neighbours, relatives and friends.

Reposing at Coady’s Funeral Home on Tuesday morning from 10.30 a.m. with removal at 12.00 noon for Funeral Mass at 12.30 p.m. in The Church of The Holy Rosary, Castlebar, followed by burial afterwards in the New Cemetery, Castlebar.
