Renewed concerns over potential emergence of new virus sub-variant

Tanáiste Leo Varadkar has expressed concerns over the potential emergence of another variant of the virus this winter.

It is widely reported that more than 75 cases of a potentially more transmissible strain of the coronavirus have already been recorded in Ireland.

Now there are concerns that the sub-variant — known as Delta Plus — could be the most transmissible to date.

But there is no indication at this point that it is more resistant to vaccines.

However, the picture could become clearer before the end of the year, medical sources revealed.
