Mayo legal firm scoops top accolade for its probate service

A MAYO legal firm which has been acting in the administration of estates since 1900 has won the prestigious National Law Award for Probation Law and Practice.

The award, presented at a gala ceremony in the Clayton Hotel, Dublin, is recognition of the outstanding quality of probate service which the Swinford-based firm P. O’Connor & Son provides.

Solicitors Samantha Geraghty (partner) and Gina Mullen (associate) accepted the award on behalf of P. O’Connor & Son.

Now in their ninth year, the National Law Awards aim to identify, honour and publicise outstanding achievements, while also recognising those who have dedicated their lives to serving in the legal professions.

The accolades are designed to recognise excellence in Ireland’s legal profession, commending the achievements of lawyers.

P. O’Connor & Son is held in high regard for the manner in which it conducts its probate business and prides itself on its friendly, considerate and professional approach to its clients.

William O’Connor, head of the firm’s probate services, points out that the importance of making a will and legacy to provide for loved ones has never been so relevant in a complex society of one-parent families, same sex relationships, cohabiting couples, second marriages and second families, extra marital children, carers, and so the importance of making a will and legacy to provide for loved ones has never been so relevant.

In addition to being selected as winner in the Irish Probate Law Firm of the Year category, P. O’Connor & Son was shortlisted as finalists in the following categories: Corporate Commercial Law Firm of the Year, Connacht Property Firm of the Year, Excellence & Innovation in Client Service, and Sports Law Firm of the Year.

The firm has a long history of achievement in the legal services.

In 1993 the firm was awarded the Quality Mark for services. Then President of Ireland Mary Robinson presented the Irish Quality Association’s National Award for services to the firm in 1995.

P. O’Connor & Son was the first firm of lawyers in the west of Ireland to achieve these prestigious awards.

The firm has been a finalist at the Irish Law Awards on a number of occasions in the past.
