Western Alzheimers Peak of Reek Challenge raises €41,000

THE Western Alzheimers' annual Peak of the Reek challenge took place in September, with participants from Mayo, Galway and Roscommon taking on the challenge. The event was again sponsored by Portwest.

Western Alzheimers is the largest provider of services to families impacted by dementia in the west of Ireland. Its mission is to help people living with dementia to continue to enjoy a meaningful life as an active member of their community for as long as possible.

“Peak of the Reek is now one of our top fundraising events, helping to expand our services and ultimately enables us continue our mission to provide carers with a break from caring,” said Deirdre Walsh, fundraising manager.

Added Pat Holmes, CEO of Western Alzheimers: “We are so grateful to all the participants for taking time to support Western Alzheimers.

“There are 6,500 people living with dementia in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon and this number is projected to double in the next 20 years. Dementia is caused by diseases of the brain and can happen to anyone.

“As a charity we rely on the generosity of individuals and groups to help us continue our vital work. We are also so grateful to Portwest for their kind sponsorship”
