Plans for 65 new Mayo homes are rejected by council

Mayo County Council has refused planning permission for a major housing development in Castlebar.

Comhair Developments Limited had sought the go-ahead to construct 65 dwelling on a site at Carrowncurry, Pontoon Road, in the town.

The proposal consisted of 17 four-bedroom detached houses, 32 semi-detached dwellings and 16 three-bedroom terraced homes.

Permission was also sought for two separate vehicular accesses, ancillary site works, open space and road junction re-configeration.

The works would have involved the demolition of a house and agricultural sheds.

Two observations had been submitted expressing reservations about the project.

The council has not yet published the reasons for its decision.
