West Mayo school launches sports facilities fundraiser

A WEST Mayo school has launched an online fundraiser to meet the costs of a newly developed all-weather pitch and running track.

The fabulous new facility is located at the rear of the rural Killeen National School.

Most of the cost has been covered through the Killeen School and Community Lottery, Killeen NS Parents Association, and some very generous donations.

However, they're not quite there yet and hope over the next year to reach a fundraising goal of €20,000.

A GoFundMe page has been launched where you can support the project here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/k7znh3-killeen-ns-allweather-pitch-running-track.

All donations are much appreciated.

Killeen NS is located seven kilometres west of Louisburgh, in the parish of Kilgeever, approximately 28 kilometres from Westport. The current school building opened in 1975 as a result of an amalgamation of Carrowniskey, Killadoon and Thallabawn national schools.

The school is in a beautiful setting with breathtaking views of the surrounding Mweelrea Mountains, Croagh Patrick and the Atlantic, looking out on Clare Island, Mweelán, Inisturk and, on a clear day, Inishbofin.
