Time for Lough Lannagh blueprint

by Auld Stock

AFTER a great deal of discussion at county board level and consultation with clubs throughout Mayo, the proposed training centre close to Lough Lannagh, Castlebar, has been hit on the head, for the moment at any rate.

Mayo GAA Board and Mayo County Council were jointly involved in the proposed Lough Lannagh venture.

Where public monies were being spent on the venture, I feel soccer and rugby games should also be catered for at the Lough Lannagh venue.

There are close on 30 acres of land close to Lough Lannagh and they have the potential to be used for a variety of sporting and other interests.

Because of this, a blueprint for the area should be drawn up and put before the public.

Incidentally, what has become of the proposal to develop four playing pitches in a large area of ground close to the Mayo Roscommon Hospice?

This project was announced with a great flourish some years ago but in the meantime not a sod has been turned to mark the start of work on the playing fields.

All a bit of a mystery, it seems.

Does anyone know what is happening in regard to the proposal?

The public deserves answers.
