Muldowneys celebrate €24,200 Swinford Community Lotto win

HAVING eluded all efforts for just over two years, the Swinford Community Lotto jackpot was finally won.

The Muldowney family have been celebrating after they collected a cheque for €24,200.

Over the past 15 years, Swinford Amenity Park has made significant progress and has delivered on its objective of providing a multiuser facility for the community and visitors. It is a wonderful facility and a great endorsement of what a community can achieve.

The astroturf project is a crowning jewel and adds significantly to the facility.

Over the years, the park committee have advanced projects based on feedback from users and potential users and their aim is always to progress the facility and not burden it with unnecessary debt.

The funding to date on this project has been a 60:40 ratio between local funding and departmental grants. The other users of the facility contribute per use towards the running costs and continued maintenance of the facility.

The astroturf has allowed them to continue that development as a multi user site and adds to the park as a centre of excellence.

The astroturf is 48m x 80m, completed to the current highest standard, with a 15mm shock pad to reduce the chances of knee damage. The total cost of the project was €250,000 - LEADER grant represents a grant of 68% for the total project. Without this level of funding from LEADER and the Swinford Community Lotto this project would not have progressed.

There is a loan is in excess of €60,000 and with your continued support it is hoped to have it paid off within five years.

Thank you to everyone for your support now and into the future of this community project.

The seller's prize for the big jackpot was won by a huge supporter of the amenity park, Fiona Ryan of Tara Cafe in Castlebar.
