ATM on Mayo tourist town’s main street is turned down

PLANS to install a new ATM facility on Bridge Street in Westport have been rejected by council planners.

Euronet 360 Finance have been refused planning permission for the installation of an ATM machine on the shopfront of Cosy Joe's pub.

Planning documents lodged with Mayo County Council set out that the ATM would meet the needs of the substantial consumer presence in Westport town, which is a very busy tourist town.

Despite it being a very busy tourist town, there is, said the applicants, a distinct low amount of cash facilities available in close proximity to the proposed site.

There are no cash facilities within the radius of 150m from the site.

The installation, by providing additional cash facility and the ease of access to cash for tourists, would support Westport as a key tourism hub and would support the residents who run family businesses in the town.

Mayo County Council, having considered the application, refused permission for the development.

They found it would impact on the architectural quality, character and amenity of Westport.
