Prestigious award for leading Mayo leisure complex for second successive year

Ireland Active, the National Health and Leisure Body, has awarded the Leisure Complex at Lough Lannagh, Castlebar, the highest possible National Quality Standard Award for the second year in a row.

The Outstanding Standard Award is the result of a thorough audit process which was carried out by Ireland Active at the facility.

The National Quality Standard Award is the most sought-after and respected accolade in the leisure and fitness industry and is awarded to facilities that meet the operational standards for leisure and fitness facilities across 250 quality-based criteria.

The standard is designed to encourage excellence and continuous improvement within the sector and recognises facilities for their remarkable standards in the areas of safety, hygiene, human resources and customer service.

Donal Newcombe, general manager of the Lough Lannagh Leisure Complex, said “I am delighted to receive confirmation of this national award for the second year in a row which is an incredible testament to our staff, who have worked incredibly hard to maintain our high standards with the added responsibility of the Covid-19 restrictions ”.

Joanne Grehan, director of services, Mayo County Council, added: “The leisure industry has faced huge challenges during the current pandemic, and I would like to thank the staff at Lough Lannagh for their continued dedication in maintaining such high standards.

"This award highlights the incredible work being done as we continue to develop the facility and Castlebar as a world class location for leisure and sports tourism”.
