Mayo County Council adopt €163,892,081 budget

MAYO County Council has adopted its budget for 2022, with expenditure of €163,892,081 next year.

Director of services Peter Duggan described the budget as 'fair, balanced and progressive' when elected members met in the TF Royal Hotel, Castlebar, today (Monday) for their annual budget meeting.

There is no change in commercial rates, and minor tweaks requested by councillors to allow for increased funding in areas including swimming pools, the strategic development zone at Ireland West Airport, libraries and museums, and drainage were agreed.

Management had already proposed additional modest budget increases in a number of areas including housing grants for older persons, street cleaning and bin emptying, management and maintenance of beaches, maintenance and upgrade of playgrounds and MUGAs taking in charge of housing estates, with provision too for an additional staff member to assist in the progression of work on derelict sites.

The expenditure of €163,892,081 for 2022 will be funded through receipts (€106,368,372), Local Property Tax (€20,856,905), and rates on commercial and industrial property (€36,666,804).

Councillor Peter Flynn described the budget as 'going in the right direction'.

Councillor Damien Ryan, who proposed its adoption, said councillors priorities were reflected in the budget before them.
