Passing of Eilish Gavan deeply mourned in west Mayo

THE communities of Castlebar and Westport are mourning the death of Elizabeth (Eilish) Gavan.

Eilish, of Cherrington Place, Moneen, Castlebar, and a native of Westport town, passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family.

A true lady, Eilish was loved and respected in her native Westport as well as her adopted home of Castlebar.

Having grown up on Mill Street in Westport, she nursed in the UK before returning to make her home in Castlebar and was noted for being someone who was kind and caring. She was held in high regard by her colleagues and the patients she cared for.

She was predeceased by her parents John James Gavan and Mary Kate Gavan and her nephew Kenneth Sweeney.

She is deeply mourned by her brother Seamus (Westport), sisters Mai Tynan (Kildare) and Kathleen Sweeney (Castlebar), sister-in-law Maureen Gavan (Mill Street, Westport), brothers-in-law Pat Tynan (Kildare) and Eddie Sweeney (Castlebar), her nephews, nieces, extended family and many friends.

Removal takes place toomorrow (Tuesday) at 1.30 p.m. from her home, arriving at the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, for funeral Mass at 2 p.m.

Afterwards Eilish will be laid to rest in Aughavale Cemetery, Westport.
