Mayo music students strike right note at NUI Galway

THE Quadrangle at NUI Galway echoed with traditional music and song this week, as the university hosted the first public musical performance assessment in its 176-year history.

The BA Music began in NUI Galway in 2018 and the first cohort of final year music students performed piano, concertina, guitar and vocals in the Emily Anderson Concert Hall, as part of their formal assessment in the Irish Traditional Music Performance module.

The students, who come from counties Galway, Mayo and Donegal, were assessed by Head of the Discipline of Music, Dr. Aidan Thomson, and Irish Traditional Music lecturer, Dr. Deirdre Ní Chonghaile.
