'Enormous and unique' Mayo blueway opportunity exits

AN 'enormous and unique' offshore opportunity exists around the west and northwest Mayo coast for a blueway, according to the head of marine development with Mayo County Council.

Michael O'Boyle, head of marine development with Mayo County Council, told the authority's Economic Development, Enterprise Support, Planning & Marine Strategic Policy Committee that his blueway conception paper will explore how the space from Cloughmore in Achill up to Sruwaddacon Bay in Erris as a 'huge outdoor amenity'.

“It's a unique ecosystem with huge potential, and this paper is a kick-off point to get it up and running,” Mr. O'Boyle stated.

He added that in the future they could look at Clew Bay and Moy Estuary as other areas for similar blueway plans.

Councillor Mark Duffy, chairperson of the SPC, said he would look forward to seeing a presentation on the blueway from consultants in the new year.
