Warm tributes to much-loved Westport woman on her passing

The death of Mary McKeown, St. Mary's Crescent, Westport, has evoked a deep sense of loss in the community.

A former member of the staff of Coillte Teoranta, Davitt House, Castlebar, she died peacefully in the care of the Mayo Hospice surrounded by her family.

Predeceased by her parents David and Monica, Mary will be sadly missed and deeply regretted by her loving family: John (Munich), Paula (Devon), Clare (Westport), Eamon (Westport), David (Belfast), Ciaran (London), Ruth (Westport), Conor (Westport) and Brendan (Louisburgh), nephew Nathan (Australia), aunt Mary Coffey (Canada), uncle Conor Duffy (Drogheda), brothers-in-law Malcolm, Seamus and Alan, sisters-in-law Monika, Isabella, Sinead, Irene, Áine and Yvonne, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.

Many warm tributes have been paid to Mary on the condolences page of the death notices website, RIP.ie

One stated: "A faithful member of Westport Church Choir and Westport Musical Society, she was always a pleasure to meet."

Another said: "A pure lady, a gentle soul, it was a pleasure to have known her."

"She was a lovely person, always a delight to chat to her on her walks with her dog," a further tribute read.

Requiem Mass takes place this morning (Saturday) in St. Mary's Church, Westport, with the burial afterwards in Aughagower Cemetery.
