Welcome boost in addressing Mayo's housing waiting list

The way has been cleared for the construction of 22 new houses by Mayo County Council at Lios Na Circe, off Milebush Road, Castlebar.

All legal issues which delayed the start of the project have now been resolved

The contract for the development will be signed with the contractor shortly with work commencing early in the new year.

The council has also agreed the design for a further 15 houses, for people with disabilities, at the location.

That will bring the number of new dwellings at the location to 37, a major boost in addressing the housing waiting list.

Also in Castlebar, eight new dwellings by Tuath Housing are nearing completion at Chestnut Grove.

A further 20 homes are due to be completed in June by Co-Operative Housing Ireland at Humbert Way in the town.

The Peter McVerry Trust is proceeding with plans for eight units at a first-floor location on Ellison Street.
