Mayo man's criminal trial to get underway next month

The criminal trial of former solicitor, Mayo native Michael Lynn, is to begin next month, the Sunday Independent has reported.

Lynn, with an address at Millbrook Court, Redcross, Co. Wicklow, will go on trial on January 11 at the Circuit Criminal Court in Dublin.

His long-awaited trial was due to begin two years ago, but has faced delays.

He was first charged more than three-and-a-half years ago.

Lynn, originally from Crossmolina, is facing 21 charges relating to the alleged theft of almost €30 million from seven financial institutions.

The trial is listed for 12 weeks, but sources told the newspaper the complex case is expected to go on for at least six months.
