Arrests made after distraction thefts at Mayo jewellery shops

Two people have been charged in respect of a distraction theft which occurred in Dylan's Jewellery Shop in Westport last Wednesday afternoon.

A male in his early 20s and a female in her late 20s were arrested in Galway by gardaí.

Jewellery to the value of €2,500 was taken from the Westport premises.

The suspects were charged before a special sitting of Castlebar District Court and remanded on bail to appear before Castlebar District Court tomorrow (Tuesday).

The woman in question is also facing further charges in respect of a similar incident at Curley's Jewellery Shop, Ballyhaunis, on the afternoon of December 15 last.

In that case, an item of jewellery valued at €4,745 was taken.
