Bridge works completed on popular south Mayo walkway

WORKS on two bridges on a popular south Mayo walkway have been completed.

The news was confirmed today by Mayo County Council.

Commenting on his social media, Councillor Patsy O'Brien said: “There was good news for the Bowers Walk in Ballinrobe today with the completion of essential bridge conservation works to the riveted wrought-iron lattice footbridge and a further footbridge upstream in Ballinrobe.

“The two bridges are now complete and open to the public from Wednesday, 22nd December.”

Originally designed and fabricated in the mid 19th century as part of the canalisation of the River Robe, the works have allowed for retention of 90% of this important historic asset, he stated.
